The Gathering 2007

Yeah.. So It’s about time I got to post how TG was!

Day One
As said, I got up early today to go to TG. When I arrived and entered the ship, it was fantastic! A feeling I have never felt before. I onlined my computer and got on meeting other people. There were seminars with among others HÃ¥kon Wium Lie from Opera about OLPC foundation and Kripos. At 21:00 they shut off the lights and a beautiful sight of 5000+ monitors lightning up the place became visible! A really beautiful sight! The openingshow was lound and fun with introduction and entertainment. A day full of excitement. Almost too much for one day.

Day Two
After a cold night not sleeping too well, I woke up and got ready for the adventures for day two. Today I saw a seminar with The PirateBay and EFN. Today I also saw a seminar with NTNU, the university I’m thinking of attending to. It was all fun. Today was the deadline for the GameDev compo, and I didn’t know so I missed it. But I will make it next year! The day went by with meeting new people, exploring the ship, small shows on the main stage etc. There was a Guitar Hero for 360 today aswell. Just for qualification. This night I slept on my keyboard.

Day Three
I woke up quite good, but with only 2-3 hours of sleep. Just like yesterday. Still sleepy I ate my breakfast. Today there was a nerdswim, but I didn’t go. I mingled along with others as usual and played a little multiplayer games with others. Today I saw a seminar with IBM, PS3 and Linux. All three in one seminar! The Themes and Freestyle graphics compos had their deadline today. I got rejected D: But I’ll try again next year I suppose. I entered another compo for building a shop at SpredShirt which by the way had a stand there. And that’s how Ern’s GamerZone Shop was born. It’s real! And the only profit I have on the products are 10 Eurocent which I will give to charity. So it’s just to buy! It’s for a good cause. Food and people happened once a while trough the day. Another night on the keyboard. Went to sleep like I did the two last days, at 5 am. I went home a little today to take a shower. At about 23:00 there was a wrestling show on the main stage! I didn’t watch too carefully though. Nothing too interesting.

Day Four
I woke up with just 2-3 hours of sleep, just like the other days. Today I arranged a trip to this Pizza restaurant with the rest of the people I sat by (none of whom I had met before). It was a success, only few people showed up. No seminars today. The end of many compos were today. I WON the shop competition :D I won $575!! How cool isn’t that? I earned going to TG. so visit the winning shop! I watched the price ceremony and meet a few another people. All in all it was pretty fun. But a little sad this was the last day. Everybody had to be out of the ship before tomorrow 14:00. I tried to do everything I wanted to do before leaving, but unfortuantely didn’t manage to do so. I didn’t go to sleep this night. The picture below is the row that I sat on, the HW-Rekka (HW-Row). Today we put up our banner!

Day Five
As said I didn’t sleep this night. I was tired as #@&! and wanted almost everything else than to do phusical work like packing my computer. But the days of sorrow had to come and I packed up and got myself home. Said goodbye to everyone I managed and to the ship. I am so going next year! TG08, watch out for me!

I slept almost that whole day, and almost the whole next day! I managed to recover before school to my normal state of tiredness. But I still wear the bracelet we were given at TG and I miss it. I miss all of my new friends from there, and I’ll see you all next year! Until that times come… :’)

Intermission

I have been lazy with posting my days at TG here. I will do an article soon with the whole experience…

TG07: And so it begins, Day 1

First of all, I forgot yo give you all the link to the live stream to TG07. It can be found here. With that out of my way, I can start.

I woke up early this day to be there when the doors opened. I got there, registered and got this bracelet which is my pass for entering the building. It’s located here in Vikingskipet Hamar, Norway. I had to make three turns to get everything I had with me inside. Nobody without a ticket can come with me inside and me coming here alone made it hard for me. The feeling of entering the ship and seeing it with it’s might and grace almost empty was great! I connected my stuff and startet my first day at TG. Today we had a visit from both Kripos (the Norwegian version of FBi/CIA) about piracy on the net and HÃ¥kon (HowCome) from Opera Software about the One Laptop Per Child organisation. It’s quite interesting.. you should see it! (Maybe I’ll write an article later on) At about 9 PM the lights were shut down and all you can see now is the light from 5000+ monitors. It’s really a beautiful sight. The opening show started and I watched trought that. Later on there were music, but nothing more special. I spent my hours walking around or doing nothing at the computer. Now I think I am going to sleep. Ill update again tomorrow!

Wireless Electricity

This is really going to revolusjonize the world as we know it. Just like TV and computers did. A company named Powercast has found a method of transmitting energy wireless and being safe at the same time! Philips says that we can expect wireless electricity already in the end of 2007. In 2008 they plan to release wireless (in the sence that you don’t even have batteries in them) keyboards and mice. This is done bu a special algorythm which is used to transmitt radiowaves in which can be transformed into electricity in a receiver.

First this will only work in short distances, but with time they will expand. The future is near! Think of the time we never have to charge our cellphones again or anything that usualy has to be charge. No more cables! Everything is charged constantly. We just have to cross our fingers and see if this happends. Read more at CNN.com.

The moon is made of cheese

If a popular and well-known company like Google says so, it has to be true. The moon is made by cheese. The rumours are true! So lets look forwards to when we travel there, and EAT IT! Don’t belive me? Look for yourself at Googles own Google Moon. Just zoom to the max and see for yourself. Cheese!

Some of you may already know this, but for you that don’t, enjoy!

The Gathering 2007

It starts in 2 days (and counting!). And as you may already have guessed, I am going! It’s true. I am. And I am looking so forwards to it! I will be my first time, and I will travel alone, but still that won’t stop me! If you don’t know what The Gathering, I’ll tell you. The Gathering, or TG for short, is the second largest computer party (LAN Party) in the world. Yes, in the world. Only beaten by the Swedish Dreamhack Winter Edition. It takes place in Vikingskipet in Hamar, Norway (that’s right) from 4th to 8th April. More info about TG here.

I am already prepareing myself. I am going to stream live with my camera, so stay tuned on wednesday for the link to the live stream. It won’t be online 24/7 though since I will hide it when I go to sleep, incase somebody found out they would like to have my camera. Everynight I will post an update, kinda like a diary, of how the day was and what happened, so you will be up-to-date. The Piratebay will even have an event there one of they days! But now I will have to think of what food to buy, so if you would excuse me…

Yes, I know. It was a very bad Aprilfoolsday joke. But I couldn’t come up with anything else. So this site will still be online.

Google hired me…

as a designer! So Im shutting this site down to go work at Google and design for them. Maybe start a new blog under their name later on. But this is a big opportunity for me. So see you and good bye for now! Don’t be surprised if you see my name on Google one day.
